Michael Marder is a Canadian philosopher, Ikerbasque Research Professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Global Reconstitution (IGRec) in Berlin. His research weaves together environmental philosophy, phenomenology, and political theory, with a special focus on vegetal subjectivity and ecological ontology. He is the author of several influential works, including Plant-Thinking: A Philosophy of Vegetal Life (2013), The Philosopher’s Plant: An Intellectual Herbarium (2014), and The Phoenix Complex: A Philosophy of Nature (2023). He earned his PhD in Philosophy from The New School for Social Research in New York and has held academic positions in Canada, the United States, and Portugal. He also directs The Philosophical Salon, an international platform for contemporary philosophical debate.
